Manufactured by the Consolidated Aircraft Company, the B-24 Liberator was one of America's main heavy bombers of World War 2. The B-24 was used in every theater of operation and perhaps is best remembered for it's part in the 1943 daring raid on Ploesti oil refinery. B-24s were used in the Pacific Theater of Operations and our print depicts B-24s of the 30th BG, 819th BS during an early 1945 strike on Iwo Jima in preparation for the Marine landings that would soon take place there. This particular aircraft was lost with her entire crew on January 17, 1945 when she was ditched in the Pacific after being hit by flak and fighters during the bombing run over the island.
